OTHER BUSINESS: Board member Drew Thompson stated he ask the election rules committee what was policy on hiring Veterans and was told they will look into it and get back to him. Supt. Bailey reported that he is closer to obtaining two new computers for the office and should have them in place by the next County Veterans Committee’s meeting.

OTHER BUSINESS: Bob Jones reported that the flagpole would probably be placed this week. Board member Bob Jones reported that he was disgruntled because of the hiring of a county worker in the Highway department, and Veteran preference was not used or considered. Board member Drew Thompson said he would check into this hiring with the election rules committee. Supt. Bailey reported that he was checking into the installation of a phone in the Conference room.

OTHER BUSINESS: Sandra Bailey reported the conference room was vacated last week and the members inspected the room and all liked having more space. Except for the lack of chairs, that are needed, they all approved. Bob Jones discussed the matter of going to the finance committee, but was told that they will meet next month about the paying rent on the building. Member Charles Bevill asked about the placing of the flagpole and was told by Harold Lyons that he will contact some people about getting it moved to our building.

MINUTES: Motion by Drew Thompson to approve the min be accepted as amended, (It was pointed out that the April min stated that there was no monthly activities report, but there was one, it just was not voted on to accept), seconded by Harold Lyons, MOTION CARRIED WITH ALL AYES.

OTHER BUSINESS: 19 Concerned Veterans were at the meeting to express their concerns that they still did not have the conference room, in the back of the building that was promised for the Veterans and the Coroner. It was decided that that The Veterans would meet at the County Board meeting and express their displeasure of this. Supt. Bailey stated that he was able to change the cell phone plan to one less expensive, and use it till the end of the contract to see if we can get by with less, thus saving the Commission some money.

OTHER BUSINESS: Secretary Bailey told the board members, in the absence of Supt. Bailey, there was little business at hand. He would like to have mentioned about the van having a lot of miles on it and the thought of someone checking into getting some information on getting the van replaced in the near future. The board members also talked about in the future getting the meeting room in the back of our building for future meetings, as the front lobby is not near large enough for our members. Also discussed, the copy machine is not working properly again and was just repaired last month at a cost of $784.00. Harold Lyons said he would look into getting some prices. Chairman Jones asked if there were any further information on the cell phones and the drivers carrying them all the time. Secretary Bailey told them that Supt. Bailey had no new information on the subject.

Attention Riders:
Due to the rising cost to transport, Starting MARCH 1ST. 2006 The V.A.C. trips will revert back to the old schedule, This means it will be going to Danville MONDAYS, WEDNESDAYS, and FRIDAYS. In addition, it will go to Peoria on TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS only. Please try to schedule your appointments between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. to have consideration to the other riders.
We must keep this schedule. If you have to go to a specialty clinic, and the Doctor is not in on the Days the transportation is provided, You must have in writing that the appointment can’t be made on those scheduled days from the Hospital or clinic, to have arrangements made to transport you.
Again I must remind you that if you are 30% disabled or in low income, and you receive travel pay, and The V.A.C. transports you, you are required to turn that payment over to the driver, so it can be put back into the County funds to help defer the cost of transporting you to the V.A.M.C.
Appointments to Hines, Iowa City, and Indianapolis should be made for TUESDAY and THURSDAY, and transportation will be provided upon verification.
I want to remind you that there is NO SMOKING in the transport vehicles, and once on the way will only stop for emergency reasons, such as restroom, or taking medications, so don’t ask the driver to stop so you can smoke, get pop or the like.
While on a trip the driver is not authorized to transport to any other destinations, except by Doctors orders.
The V.A.C. must operate within their budget and to do so expenses have to be cut, or services may be lost.

OTHER BUSINESS: Supt. Bailey expressed that He would prefer the drivers keep the cell phones with them so that he could contact them day and night for changes in driving schedules and the like, and if the county wants compensation let us know, and how much so we can decide if this can be done. Supt Bailey ask Chairman Jones if he did any checking on used County office equipment that could be utilized by the Commission, and Jones said he has talked to Stan Weber and Stan said he would look into it. Supt. Bailey presented a letter that he drafted and sent to all Veterans that the Commission Transports.(LETTER ATTACHED) The Committee looked the letter over and expressed approval.
